Following rhinoplasty and revision rhinoplasty or secondary rhinoplasty, patients are recommended to tape their nose. Most surgeons believe rhinoplasty patients should tape their nose at least 1-2 months’ post-op the surgery in order to help the skin to shrink wrap down on the underlying bone and cartilage. Generally taping is the main support for the new nasal structure after the nose job. A few days’ post-ops the nose surgery when other splints such as plaster casts have been removed, taping can protect the newly modified structures.
How to tape your nose after a nose job?
- When you take shower and wash the taping with water and make sure tapes soak properly, then gently remove and peel off the taping.
- Next, dry its place carefully and apply a bit of alcohol to remove the oiliness of the glue in the tape. Alcohol can remove oiliness and reduce pimples and acne.
- Then cut the thin nose tape to 2.5 cm dimensions and make four pieces with 15cm of length. Now start taping.
- First, start from the top. When taping the nasal bridge, each tape should cover half the width of the previous one. Do this step as the mentioned method in 2 layers.
- The next step is taping the nose tip. Place the 15cm tape in a way that holds the tip tightly and pointed upwards.
- It is very important to do taping post op the rhinoplasty, it should be done at least twice a week.
Can I have a rhinoplasty without taping my nose?
The first weeks after the nose surgery is very critical and the patient should be very careful during this time. You need to have taping around the nose in order to protect your nose because the tissues around the nose are very sensitive and need to be protected. After the surgery, your doctor gives you an instruction about the taping and post-op care that you should follow it carefully. The healing time is very critical and if you don’t be careful during this period it may cause serious damage to your nose and provide you undesirable results.
Advantage and disadvantages of taping after rhinoplasty
Taping after nose job allows your nose to take its shape faster and to heal on its own. It also prevents the creation of scar tissue to the nose. There are also some disadvantages to rhinoplasty taping. For example, in some cases, taping irritates the nose and some patients also have difficulty removing the residue from the tape in the morning.
